Grab a wooden plaque from the craft store and try one of these wood plaque crafts! Decorate these surfaces with paint, decoupage, and more. There are some great ideas for beginners here.
Have you ever been to the wood section of the craft store? Of course you have. It’s the aisle that includes boxes, photo frames, wood slices, crates, wood blocks, letters, trays, and much, much more.
If you want to make a wood craft, it’s the place to be. It can also be completely overwhelming.
If you check the wood plaques area, you’re going to find a lot of variety. Here’s what it looks like at my local shop:
You’ll see round, square, rectangular, hanging, scalloped, and tons of other plaque styles – AND they come in a variety of styles! What do you do with them?
Don’t worry friends – I’m here to help.
I’m going to share over 25 wood plaque crafts with you! And I’m really excited, because there are some extremely fun ways to decorate these surfaces that I think you’re going to like.
There are so many options for decorating a wooden plaque, including paint, stain, Mod Podge, and more. You’re going to see lots of projects – and I know one will resonate with you.
There are two common questions I get that I wanted to address before I share the projects.
The first is, do you have to paint the plaque before you Mod Podge, or can you decoupage directly onto raw wood? The answer is no, you don’t have to paint. You can put paper directly onto raw wood.
The second question is what type of paint you can use on wooden plaques. I recommend using a craft paint, chalk paint, or stain to start. They are very forgiving, especially chalk paint. And you can decoupage all over the top!
Now that you know the basics – and there weren’t that many – I think you’re ready to get creative. In fact, I know you’re ready.
So pick a plaque, try one of these projects and let me know what you think in the comments. They are great crafts to do at home so I know you’ll find something you love! Let me know if you have any questions as well. Enjoy!
