So quite a while ago, I wrote a Mod Podge formula guide. I also wrote a post on learning to Mod Podge with an FAQ.
While both of those posts were a labor of love, I still don’t think they were enough to quench the knowledge thirst of you serious Mod Podgers.
And I get it . . . because while those posts are actioned pack with tons of information, they don’t include a lot of detailed information on each formula.
This is because if I wrote a post and included a lengthy description with FAQs and project samples . . . . it would be WAAYY too long!
So long that it would be difficult to find your formula of interest just by scrolling, and you wouldn’t want to read it.
Which Mod Podge to Use
I decided to break out each into its own post – completely dedicated to EACH formula and just that formula!

Hi,
I would like to use scrapbooking paper with metallic accents on furniture. I was thinking of using the hard coat mod podge, but I was wondering if the satin finish will make the metallic accents look flat, not metallic anymore? Which mod podge should I use to keep the metallic shiny?
Thanks
Hi Josyane! Yes, the satin finish of Hard Coat will flatten the accents a little bit. Gloss is your best bet for keeping it shiny, but it will still dull it a little bit. All acrylic products will.
What is the best type of Mod Podge to use when transferring a photo (printed on plain paper) to wood? Thank you
You have two options –
regular Mod Podge and inkjet: https://modpodgerocksblog.com/inkjet-photo-transfer-to-wood/
Mod Podge photo transfer and laserjet: https://modpodgerocksblog.com/how-to-transfer-photos-to-wood/
Pick based on which tutorial you use!
If I’m going to paint a wine glass. Can I combine mod podge glitter & dishwasher mod podge.
Hi Danette! Yes you can. You can mix or sprinkle the glitter on top. If you sprinkle, you should add a sealing coat of Mod Podge. It will dull the glitter but this is what’s required to make it washable.
Ugh!!! I used the fabric Mod Podge on my glass plates. Now what? Yes. I’m a first timer!
Do I have to seal my finished plates with something other than the MP? I’m going to use the dishwasher safe one from now on.
Hi Kellie! No you don’t need to seal the plates with anything else but Mod Podge. As far as the Fabric Mod Podge goes, since it’s already done, I’d try washing it. Why not? Unless you just want it to be decorative!
Ok stupid question can u decopoge a otter box for a I phone my grandson found something very cool he wants on his otter box
Hi Patricia! I’m familiar with Otterbox as I used to work at a cell phone case manufacturer! With the material on an Otterbox I recommend using a vinyl sticker rather than Mod Podge.
Do you use regular copying paper for the photos or another actual photo? Is there a certain type of printer requirement? Like laser printer etc
Hi Kimberley! Yes I do use regular paper – laserjet printed preferred!
hellooo, I have the regular glossy Mod Podge, can I use it to seal my acrylic paint on Nike Airforces shoes?
Hi Yashiru! Yes you can but if they’re going to get wet regularly I’d still use an additional sealer.
@Amy, thank you so much Amy ๐ฅบ๐๐ป
I have these two Vintage hard plastic school chairs I got from Grandparents house after they passed. I was going to just paint them but then I got to thinking how cute they would be with a modge podge decor on the seat and back. I’m just having a hard time figuring out the right modge to use. Also do use think I should do a resin over the project when finished?
Thankyou in advance for your help!
Hi Katie! I would use Hard Coat and then yes – a clear poly or Engine Enamel spray over the top when done! Good luck.
Thanks so much for all your hard work and research. You must have heard all of us screaming abt too many products (great and wonderful) with too much info to read. Youโve broken the info down that makes it so much easier to pick one. Thanks again!!
Can I brush dishwasher modge podge over oil based paint pens used on glass?
Yes you can Cassey!
To date, I have done at least 15 mod podge image transfers to wood in a 2 month time frame. I get better & more creative with time & experience. Here’s my issue… no matter how gentle I am in rubbing off the pulp, I always manage to rub off some of the actual image on the wood. More often than not, I actually appreciate the vintage look & am ok with it. Most times though, I end up rubbing off more image than I want. What am I doing wrong?
PLEASE,PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hi Evelyn! My advice to you would be to try a bit of a thicker layer of photo transfer on the image. Do a few samples with various thicknesses of medium and see what works for you. I feel like it being so thin is probably the problem.
