Recycle glass bottles and turn them into vases – all you need is a little bit of spray paint and Mod Podge. This craft is so easy!
Skills Required: None. Even if you’ve never crafted before, you can easily make this project. It’s easy to apply small bits of paper to these glass bottles with decoupage medium.
Sometimes you have a collection of old glass bottles that you aren’t sure what to do with. Because the bottle was emptied and you could technically put them in the recycling bin, but for whatever reason, they are just too pretty to throw away.
That’s how I felt about the shape of these bottles, and so I had to turn them into something . . . and vases seemed just the thing. So I threw a little confetti and decoupage medium into the mix and what resulted?
Recycle glass bottles into vases with spray paint and confetti. Yep, you heard me!
Recycle Glass Bottles
I LOVE LOVE LOVE these vases. They are so easy, and can be used to display any color of flowers, real or fake. Aren’t they fun? And they add such a colorful touch to my celebratory spread. Here’s what I used to recycle these bottles:
- White spray paint
- Old Coca-Cola bottles
- Mod Podge Matte
- Confetti, size of your choice
- Paintbrush
It doesn’t get any easier than spray painting the bottles white and Mod Podging confetti around the center. I have a post on painting glass, but the secret is patience and several thin layers.
Spray paint the bottles with the white spray paint, giving several thin coats until fully covered. This is why I love to recycle glass bottles into vases . . . the shapes and patterns are so unique and really come out with a coat of white paint.
Let the spray paint dry and get your confetti and Mod Podge ready.
You just work an inch or two at a time, adding Mod Podge to the center band of the bottle and placing confetti on top. Go all the way around, let dry, and then put a top coat on. That’s it!
The only warning is not to paint over the confetti too many times – the dye will start to bleed. Other than that, you are golden! This could possibly be my easiest, most fun craft tutorial yet.
Are you ready to recycle glass bottles? What would you Mod Podge on them? Let me know in the comments! I’d also love for you to check out the following projects:

Question: I’ve had many issues of paint easily chipping off of my glass creations. Even when just being bumped. I looked at your post for painting glass. I see you didn’t cure this one in the oven. Will the paint not chip on this one if they bump together?

Hi Lindsay! With spray paint? These are spray painted. Yes for regular glass paint I would cure them. For this particular glass spray paint it's very durable and doesn't chip off easily.
