DIY Christmas lights that look like snowballs

Are you ready to start decorating for Christmas yet? We’re already starting over here, and one of the crafts I promised myself I’d try this year is snowball Christmas lights.

These DIY Christmas lights are easy to make and will look like you have glittery snowballs decorating your home! These look perfect on a holiday mantel, the tree, or anywhere else you want a little light.

DIY Christmas Lights

Gather These Supplies

  • Mod Podge Matte or Gloss
  • White ping pong balls – 24
  • Christmas lights – one strand of white, 24 bulbs
  • X-Acto knife
  • White glitter – large flake
  • Paintbrush
Hand holding a ping pong ball with a hole cut in the center

Start by taking the X-Acto knife and making a small hole in each ping pong ball. Smaller is better, as the ball will need to fit snugly over the lights later.

Tweezers holding a ping pong ball covered in Mod Podge

Give each ball a generous coating of Mod Podge. I’ve got a tip for you to make this way easier on yourself!

Either use large plastic tweezers like you see above (you can find them in a craft section). Another thing I do is put “my balls” on a wooden skewer to paint, then I stick that into a block of floral foam to dry. It’s so handy.

Covering ping pong balls in glitter with Mod Podge

Cover each ball in glitter and then allow to dry completely. It may be easier to coat one side, let dry, and then do the other. Do what works best for you. It can take a few hours for the balls to dry depending on the environment.
