With paper and a little Dimensional Magic, you can have fun and fashionable DIY belt buckles to wear with your favorite pair of jeans.
I can’t stop with the Dimensional Magic – you know I made rings and then also a damask frame (among others). I love this stuff!
So the other day I made some DIY belt buckles with Dimensional Magic, and they turned out so great that I had to share.
Let me tell you, it was totally touch-and-go there for a moment, using Dimensional Magic on such a large area. But it worked out. Here’s how.
DIY Belt Buckles
Gather These Supplies
- Belt buckles – I got mine from Etsy (search for “belt buckle blank”)
- Mod Podge Dimensional Magic
- Mod Podge Gloss
- Scraps of scrapbook paper
- Embellishments – stickers, brads, rhinestones, glitter . . . whatever you have in your stash. The cool flowers are Maya Road Resin Blossoms in Red
- Vellum
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Tape
This is a super easy tutorial with only a few steps.
First, use a piece of vellum (or another scrap of paper) as a template – trace the inside of the belt buckle with your pencil. I did a rubbing of the edge and it worked well.
Tape the template on your paper and cut it out (with scissors or a craft knife).
Mod Podge the paper into the belt buckle blank and let it dry for about 15 – 20 minutes.
Add embellishments (you can’t see them under my hand in this photo, ha!) and then add Dimensional Magic. Here’s the whole trick to doing the DIY belt buckles. THREE layers.
I did one layer and allowed to dry in a warm place (to prevent cracking). I did a second layer and allowed to dry again. THEN I did a third layer and added the scrapbooking brad embellishments so that they would be “dimensional” on the top of the Dimensional Magic.
What do you think? Are you ready to sport a DM belt buckle? I so dare you. One more thing – I had everything on hand except for the belt buckles, so this project was budget friendly.

Is there a way to save your project if the Mod Podge Dimensional turns blue?
Mod Podge Amy says
Hi Heather! I’ve not heard of this and I think it requires some more investigation! If you didn’t put the DM on blue paper (or ink, which could bleed), then I would suggest writing Plaid so that they can look into it:
