This Mod Podge Tissue Paper Frame is Easy!

This Mod Podge tissue paper frame is budget friendly and only takes a few minutes to make! Kids will love this easy and colorful idea.

Wandering through the aisles of Michaels recently, I came onto the Valentine’s Day display. You know, the end cap or special section of the store where they have all the holiday goodies. I’m always drawn in, like a moth to a flame.

This particular time I noticed they had frames for $1 – with a heart shaped opening! The first thing I thought about was my niece, and how much fun we could have decorating a frame together.

And for only $1, the price can’t be beat. But what to use to cover the frame? I have a LOAD of tissue paper, so I decided to do a tissue paper project.

The nice thing about working with tissue paper is that it’s an inexpensive medium and kids love it. This project is so easy for children to make, and if you would like, you can join in the fun too! Here’s how I made my frame.

DIY Heart Frame

Gather These Supplies

Mod Podge Gloss
Tissue paper in valentine colors
Circle punch – 2”
Wood embellishments – Valentine-themed
Craft glue or hot glue gun
Scissors or craft knife
Paintbrush

Paint the wood frame using Apple Barrel in White. Let dry.

Using the punch to punch out several circles from the tissue paper

Use the circle punch to punch out several circles from the tissue paper. Punch out several in different colors.

Use the Mod Podge to adhere the tissue paper circles to the front of the frame. Starting in one corner, add Mod Podge to the frame, then put the circles down right on top.

*Note: In this picture I have Mod Podge Sheer Colors pictured . . . they are no longer available. Just use regular Mod Podge!

Keep adding Mod Podge and circles, overlapping as you go. Cover the entire front of the frame.

You can fold the edges of the tissue paper circles over the edge of the frame and Mod Podge them down – or you can let the frame dry and trim the edges using the scissors or craft knife.

Once the frame is dry, glue the wood valentine embellishments down on the frame using the craft glue.
