DIY Thanksgiving signs for your home

We love making signs around here (see fall, Christmas)! Seriously, if I’m going to make any kind of display for the holidays, there needs to be some sort of a message as part of the “ambiance.”

It’s especially important if you’re having guests over. What kind of mood do you want to set? Mine is usually silly and sarcastic, to be honest.

But for Thanksgiving, I do like to go with a bit of a softer message. Because genuinely I’m thankful for a lot of things that I have.

I feel like even though I’ve had it rough at some points in my life, I’m a pretty lucky person. God/the universe looks out for me!

So today I’m happy to share with you these DIY Thanksgiving signs! Most of these use very simple supplies and are perfect for beginners. They come on a variety of backgrounds, including wood cutouts, pallet wood, and even wood slices.

Tips for Making A Thanksgiving Sign

Pick your message first. The message you select will determine the size you need for the background of your sign.

What do you want to say to your guests? Do you want it funny or more serious? Here are some cute options I’ve noticed:

  • In Everything Give Thanks
  • Let Our Lives Be Full of Both Thanks and Giving
  • Give Thanks and Eat Pie
  • Leftovers Are For Quitters
  • Gobble ‘Til You Wobble
  • Get Your Fat Pants Ready

Look for salvaged or reusable materials for your background. Something about Thanksgiving typically says “rustic” to me . . . pallet wood, an old board, wood scraps, even a wood slice. Don’t be afraid to grab something old and make it new again!

Embrace chalk paint and chalkboard paint. Both of these can give a very rustic look to a project, which is perfect for Thanksgiving signs. You can also easy distress chalk paint (plus it’s typically no-prep).

Don’t worry if you don’t have a Cricut. A lot of signs use cutting machines, but if you don’t have one, check Etsy.

There are designs already cut for sale (search your saying), or there are people who will cut for you to the size you want.
