This DIY night light revamp uses a dollar store find along with Mod Podge and tissue paper! Such a fun home decor makeover for a small price.
If anyone knows me, they know my love for Dollar Tree. I have talked about it at length on my blog and every time I go there, I seem to find another gem. As I was browsing the other day, I came across some push night lights in cute shapes.
My daughter was needing a night light, and I had a light bulb moment! Why not take this little plastic push light and give it a makeover with a few craft materials I already had on hand? And a DIY night light for just $1? You can’t really go wrong.
I want to go grab the other shapes and make more now that I’ve completed this one. I made mine girly, but you could easily alter this little project for a boy. Maybe use some white spray paint and a light blue tissue paper for a nursery? The possibilities are endless!
Dollar Tree Night Light
For this project, you will need:
- Mod Podge Hard Coat (or you can use an original formula)
- Tissue Paper
- Paint Brush
- Spray Paint
- Sharpie
- Push Light from Dollar Tree
Grab yourself a push light from Dollar Tree, Target, Walmart or wherever else you can find one.
Use painter’s tape to cover up the light but leave the edges exposed.
Give your light a few coats of spray paint. I chose gold of course!
Start layering on tissue paper with Mod Podge.
After you’ve added a few layers to your dollar store night light, top it all off with a final layer of Mod Podge.
Use your sharpie to make a pattern on the light once it’s fully dry, or just leave it as is!
It looks cute enough during the day to leave out on a night stand.
And it makes a pretty design when it’s lit up at night.
Go make over a dollar store night light (or a bunch) today!! If you enjoyed this Dollar Tree night light makeover, I’d love for you to check out these other ideas:

I love this idea! It definitely looks better and is more fun. I was thinking you could mod podge on a slightly smaller fabric heart in the center and then the outside would shine bright while still having a hand decorated touch in the center.
