Learn how to decoupage flower pots using napkins and Mod Podge! This easy craft adds beauty to your home decor. Also makes a great gift.
Skills Required: Beginner. I recommend having some experience with Mod Podge to decoupage terra cotta pots. Especially with napkins, given that they tear easily (though I have tips for you!).
When I first saw these pots I wondered what talented artist painted the flowers on the sides of these pots. Because my mom would love these!
Maybe it’s just my astigmatism, but I even saw texture from the paint in the flower petals. So I clicked through the post to learn more . . . and it was then that I discovered that these pots were decoupaged with napkins! Yes, decoupage flower pots, rather than a printed design. Wow.
Not only that, but they were decoupaged with napkins. I’m really impressed – they’re so beautiful. Mod Podging some terra cotta is definitely on the schedule this spring or summer; I would actually love to make these as gifts for people in addition to garden decor.
Wouldn’t that be lovely? If you want to learn how to decoupage flower pots, check out the tutorial below. You can find a lot more tips in my clay pot painting and decorating post as well.
Decoupage Flower Pots
Equipment
Materials
- Decorative paper napkins
- Terra cotta pot(s)
- Mod Podge Gloss
- Chalk paint
- Clear plastic wrap
Instructions
- Cut the shapes out from the napkin and separate layers, saving the top layer with the design. Set aside.
- Paint the clay pots using chalk paint. You don’t need to completely cover the clay pot; allow the pot to stay a bit distressed looking. Let dry.
- Add Mod Podge to the pot in a thin layer and place the napkin on top. Use a piece of plastic wrap to smooth the napkin down gently with your fingers.
- Let dry and repeat with other napkin pieces and designs. Allow to dry.
- Seal the entire pot with a few coats of Mod Podge. Let dry for 24 hours before using.
Notes
- Separate the layers of the napkins with scotch tape if you’re having difficulty
- If you’re going to use these for plants that you’ll water, you’ll need to spray the inside with a sealer so that the water doesn’t seep through the pot and ruin the design
