Decoupage Candles with Dollar Tree Napkins

Makeover candles with napkins and Mod Podge from the dollar store! These decoupage candles can be customized for any occasion.

Skills Required: Beginner. You don’t need to have a ton of Mod Podge experience to make these, but I do recommend having prior craft experience because the napkins are fragile.

Easy Mod Podge candles with napkins

I’m very excited to share these flameless decoupage candles today! I love lighting candles, but I must confess that I have been known to forget about them from time to time.

Coming home after running errands to a lit candle that I have totally forgotten about is definitely not the best case scenario!

I haven’t invested in flameless candles yet, but when I saw that the Dollar Tree had some, I had to grab a few. With a little Mod Podge and decorative napkins, I turned them into something super cute.

I found the napkins at the Dollar Tree also which made these decoupage candles very inexpensive.

Since the napkins are so thin, the light from the LED candle still shines through creating a beautiful effect. You can customize these candles for different occasions.

Wouldn’t these be pretty for a Mother’s Day gift? Or make some with party napkins for a birthday party. Or maybe some fall napkins for Thanksgiving decor. The possibilities are endless!

Mod Podge Candles with Napkins

Gather These Supplies

  • Mod Podge Gloss, Matte, or Satin
  • Napkins
  • Flameless candles from Dollar Tree
  • Foam brush
  • Scissors
  • Plastic wrap (optional)
Adding Mod Podge to a candle with a foam brush

Brush a thin layer of decoupage medium onto your candle using the foam brush.

Wrapping a napkin around a Mod Podged candle

Next, unfold and separate your napkin so that it’s just one-ply (it helps to use a piece of Scotch tape to help you grab a layer, or wet your finger).

Wrap it around the candle, smoothing it out. There will be some wrinkles but that’s ok! Brush on another layer of Mod Podge over the napkin.

Tip: use a piece of plastic wrap to smooth the napkin out. Place around the candle and use your fingers to smooth (gently so as not to tear the napkin).

Wrapping a napkin around the bottom of a dollar store candle

Wrap the napkin around the bottom of the candle.

Trimming excess napkin with scissors

After it has dried, trim off the excess off the top using scissors.

I've been decoupaging for over 30 years.....love it. I started with regular candles, then did the flameless ones.
