I decorated this wood Halloween decor in a short amount of time! These BOO letters are easy and great for a mantel or table display.
I was walking through a craft store the other day just looking for inspiration and then I got stopped on one of an aisle by some cute wood Halloween decor . . . letters, plaques, accent pieces, and more. I love everything Halloween so I had to stop.
And I ended up throwing these BOO letters into my basket because I just can’t help myself. I knew EXACTLY what would go perfectly on two of the letters: Duck Tape! I had it at home in some full Halloween patterns as well as the Glow-in-the-Dark which I’m obsessed with.
You can see above what resulted, and this wood Halloween decor is easy for you to do as well. Here’s what I did.
BOO Letters for Halloween
Gather These Supplies
- Wood letters
- Acrylic paint
- Mod Podge Gloss
- Duck Tape – Halloween Bats and Glow-in-the-Dark
- Crackle medium
- Craft knife and mat
Start with a set of wood letters. I found these bad boys at Craft Warehouse which is a local craft company in the Pacific Northwest.
While I like to shop at all craft stores, but I really like the local ones when I want something a bit different. They often offer stock that the chains don’t.
Paint your letters with a few coats of acrylic paint. I painted the ghost with white and then the pumpkin and letter “B” with a purple color.
The edges of the pumpkin need purple, but you don’t have to cover the entire front since the tape is going over it. Let dry.
Isn’t this the cutest Halloween Duck Tape ever?!
Start in the middle and run your tape from top to bottom, leaving excess on either end.
Overlap the tape slightly. If your pattern matches, that’s great, but otherwise, just overlap it. Smooth with your hands then flip over.
Trim around the edge of the pumpkin with a craft knife. Remove all the excess Duck Tape.
You’re going to do the same with the Glow-in-the-Dark Duck Tape on the ghost shape. The reason I painted the ghost piece white is because the glowing Duck Tape is slightly transparent.
Trim off the edge on that letter too.
Now on the letter “B,” you’re going to paint Crackle Medium on the surface and let dry. The instructions on my bottle say 20 minutes. After that, paint the black on top and let dry. You’ll see it crackle immediately! Once it’s dry, seal with Gloss Mod Podge.
Display your wood Halloween decor on a shelf or in a windowsill!
And then when the lights go out, enjoy the wonderful glow. These letters are so fun!
