Make these vintage-inspired DIY Halloween party cups to hold of your treats! These would also make great gifts for the holiday. So cute!
I love challenges! This month's DIY Halloween challenge for Michaels Makers was something party – which is so easy for the Halloween lovers around here! Ashlee from My So Called Crafty Life came up with a brilliant idea of holiday treat holders designed to look like vintage nut cups.
The nice thing about this idea is that you can customize it any way you like. Add any color streamers . . . . any embellishments . . . Michaels has all sorts of supplies, so make this fun idea your own.
Whether you’re into spooky sights, playful pumpkins or giggling ghouls, Michaels is your Boo-It-Yourself Halloween Headquarters and has tons of ideas for DIY costumes and décor.
Halloween Party Cups
What You Need:
- Ice Cream Cups
- Paper Straws
- Crepe Paper Streamers
- Halloween Minis such as little crows, bats, pumpkins, etc.
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue
- Sewing Machine and Thread or Sewing Needle and Thread
- Rolling Pin
- Mod Podge Sparkle (optional)
The first thing you do is make the crepe paper ruffled garland. Measure the circumference of your ice cream cup. Double that measurement. So if your cups were 9″ round you would make your strips to be 18″. I cut two strips per cup.
Fold your strips in half lengthwise. Stack them one on top of the other.
Now you need to stitch a gathering basting stitch across the top of the strips. Stitch either by machine with a wide basting stitch or by hand at the top of the folded edge of the strips as close to the edge as possible.
Pull one side of the thread to gather your paper. Keep gathering until you have enough to perfectly fit around the top of your cup.
Now you will make the handle. Grab a paper straw. Roll the paper straw flat with a rolling pin. Curl the paper straw around the pin to help form the curve.
Now you can add the handle to the cup. Place a dab of glue on one side of the cup close to the top. Press the end of the straw into the glue and hold for a few seconds to set. Then add a dab of glue to the other side of the cup and glue down the other end of the straw.
Next add the crepe paper ruffle. Run a bead of glue around the top of the cup and then press the stitched side of the ruffle into the glue. Work a little at a time until you have glued the ruffle all the way around the cup.
Now you can fluff up the ruffle if you like. Carefully separate the layers of crepe paper to your liking.
To finish off your Halloween party cups, glue your mini decoration to the side of your handle. I used little feathered crows. Now your mini buckets they are ready to fill with candy.
I LOVE how these DIY Halloween favors turned out! These vintage-inspired treat cups hold a lot of candy. I think they would be great for a party or to fill with a special treat for your extra special lovies for Halloween. I hope you will give it a try at your next Halloween bash!
