I’m a huge fan of Kate Spade and her famous polka dots. In this DIY frame project I gave a $1 Michaels surface a Kate-inspired makeover and it looks great!
Hi, it’s Courtney with Crafts by Courtney. Are you ready for a new craft project?? I am! Today I’m stepping out of my coastal comfort zone and sharing another LOVE of mine . . . POLKA DOTS! I’m giving a quick makeover to a frame I got for $1.00 at Michaels!
I’m a huge fan of Kate Spade and her famous polka dots. I wanted to give this DIY frame a “Kate Spade” inspired makeover, using mint paint, polka dots and a cute little dragonfly. Of course I had to add a little bling with some sparkly gold glitter!
For this project you’re going to need:
- Wood frame
- Scrapbook paper
- Mod Podge Matte
- Wooden dragonfly
- Foam brush
I love browsing the aisles at Michaels, I never know what I’m going to walk out with. On a recent trip I found this adorable frame and cute wooden dragonfly. The frame was $1.00 and the dragonfly was .50 cents, total score!
I headed home to give this frame a simple “Kate Spade” inspired makeover!
Step 1 – Paint Your Frame
I pulled out one of my favorite colors of chalk paint to paint my frame. I painted my sofa table with this color and just loved it. I knew it would be perfect for the look I’m going for.
I did two coats and let each one dry for 20 minutes.
Step 2 – Cut and Add Scrapbook Paper
I found this cool polka dot scrapbook paper at Hobby Lobby a couple months ago. I’ve been waiting for the perfect project to use it on.
Step 3 – Add Your Glitter
Now it’s time to add your glitter!
I used my “handy dandy” Mod Podge and painted it on the dragonfly, making sure to get the sides. Then I sprinkled my glitter over top!
Step 4 – Finishing Touches
One of my favorite things I love about this project is that it was less then $2.00 to make!! Remember I only paid $1.00 for the frame and .50 cents for the dragonfly. I already had all the other supplies on hand! Now I can set it on the bookshelf in the living room.
Thanks for stopping by and have a super day!
