Learn how to decorate a desk lamp with fabric and Mod Podge! It adds flair to an otherwise boring lamp that sits on your desk.
I’ve recently come to the conclusion that I need a desk in my apartment to work from. Sitting in my bed all day and working is great, but it doesn’t help with staying awake or getting out of my pajamas.
So I’m going to create a real work area . . . and I did a desk lamp revamp to go in it. This is my third project in my Brand Ambassador role for Apartments.com, and I’m so pleased with the results! Isn’t it so – me?
I am a huge Target shopper, and this baby was on clearance for $5! And when I saw it, my first thought was that it was the perfect surface for Mod Podging. Which leads me to show you how to decorate a desk lamp.
You can also use this same method to decorate a lamp for a kids’ room, or any room really. It was so fun and quick to do. Here’s how I did it.
Decorate a Desk Lamp
Gather These Supplies
- Desk lamp – and you can do this with any lamp!
- Mod Podge Satin and Fabric
- Acrylic paint in the color of your choice
- Fabric of your choice
- Die cutter or another way to cut out images (clip art, etc)
- Painter’s tape
Once the fabric is fully dry, you have a few choices to get your shapes. I have a die cutter, so that is what I used . . . but you can use clip art (print out your design and cut) or you can draw freehand and cut with with scissors. It’s really up to you.
Once the fabric pieces have enough Mod Podge on them, press them down onto the lamp. You can wipe the excess Mod Podge away. Press down carefully and try not to get too much Mod Podge all over the place (telling myself this).
Paint with acrylic paint – let dry and do another coat. I did three coats. Remove the painter’s tape right after the third coat. You don’t want to let it dry. Once the painter’s tape is off, let everything dry for several hours.
