Do you have a broken parasol or just one that needs a face lift? This parasol craft is easy with your favorite tissue paper and Mod Podge!
Partly to repair the parasol and partly to make it my own, I put together this simple project, which also happens to be a perfect accessory for beach weather. Here’s how I did this parasol craft.
- tissue paper
- round objects of various sizes (plate, cup, etc. to use as templates)
- Outdoor Mod Podge
- sponge brush
So here’s the sorry state my parasol was in at the time of purchase, in case you were curious. The big tear went almost all the way from the top to the bottom of the parasol.
Trace several circles of different sizes on a sheet or two of large tissue paper.
Cut out all of your circles and sort them into piles by size.
If your parasol is damaged, carefully apply a layer of Outdoor Mod Podge around the biggest tear in the parasol. Make the Mod Podge layer approximately the same size as the tissue paper circle you’re about to decoupage onto the parasol. Be careful not to make the tear worse while applying the Mod Podge. Set a circle large enough to cover the tear onto the Mod Podge and smooth it into place.
If you’re covering a tear, paint a second layer of Mod Podge onto the back of the tear to secure it on both sides.
Back on the outside of the parasol. Paint another layer of Mod Podge over the dry side of the circle. Continue applying circles all over the parasol until it’s got a design you like. I overlapped a couple of circles and included some that didn’t touch any others for a littler variety.
For any circles not used to cover and fix a tear, you can skip applying any Mod Podge on the back of the parasol. Simply apply a layer of Mod Podge where you’d like to place a tissue paper circle, put it on the Mod Podge, and then paint another layer of Mod Podge over the top of it.
Once all of the Mod Podge dries, paint another layer of Outdoor Mod Podge over the entire parasol and let dry for a couple days. Not only does the Outdoor Mod Podge seal the parasol, but it makes it better for outdoor use than in its original, plain paper form.
