Decorate a Makeup Compact with Comic Book Paper

Decorate a makeup compact with comic book scrapbook paper! This is a fun and easy craft, and a great gift idea. Get the tutorial here.

Cover a compact in comic book paper using Mod PodgeI’ve really been into comic books and action movies lately. So it’s no wonder that I pounced on a cool stack of comics-inspired scrapbooking paper when I found it on the rack at my favorite craft store.

My favorite page in particular from it is filled with the iconic BAM, SPLAT and OOF reactions that you find in comics. What was I going to do with this awesome paper for a craft project?

Obviously, I needed a place to show it off, and when I noticed an unexciting powder compact in my purse showing signs of age, I found my canvas.

Decorate a Makeup Compact

Supplies

  • scrapbooking paper (any design is ok – I just really love this comic book stuff I found!)
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • Antique Matte Mod Podge
  • sponge brush
  • acrylic sealant (optional)

comiccompact1Directions

Trace your compact around your favorite 2 sections of your scrapbooking paper and cut them out.

comiccompact3Paint a layer of Antique Matte Mod Podge on one side of your compact, and place one paper circle on it, lining it up however you like.

Remember that when you open your compact, it might read upside down – or right side up – depending on how you’ve placed the circle!

comiccompact4

comiccompact5Paint another layer of Mod Podge over the dry side of your placed paper circle.

comiccompact6Let dry, and repeat the Mod Podge, circle placement, Mod Podge, and drying process over again.

comiccompact7If you feel like your finished compact is a little tacky to the touch, you can seal it with an acrylic spray, but that’s totally optional.
