I’ve got a really fun formula for you today! Have you heard of Brushstroke Mod Podge? I’d say it’s the aardvark of the Mod Podge formula world. It’s unique and interesting, and you might have heard of this species, but you’ve probably never seen it. Ha!

Okay, maybe not the best analogy, but this is a formula I get asked about a lot. Why does it exist? What does it do? Well – that’s what I’m about to tell you!

The purpose is pretty cool, actually. Mod Podge Brushstroke creates a highly textured finish that resembles hand painting! You can apply it over posters, prints or to decoupaged canvas projects for an artistic look that’s an affordable alternative to genuine painted wall art.

And it comes in two formulas for your decoupaging needs: Gloss and Matte. I feel that the best way to explain this formula is to give you a visual so you can completely understand:

Do you see what I mean with the texture? It reminds me of a clear plaster wall and it’s not just visual – you can feel it when it dries. I’m sure you’ve seen great works of art with textured paint, right?

The appearance adds visual interest. And that’s exactly what this does! It’s not flat by any means! The texture – or extreme brushstroke look – is exactly what makes this formula unique.

Questions About Brushstroke Mod Podge

1. How is Brushstroke Mod Podge different from any other Mod Podge? This formula is not smooth to the touch. It actually has a textured feel when applied to the surface!

2. Why would I want to use it? Genuine wall art painted with high-end acrylics isn’t cheap. Perhaps you want to take a craft painted piece of your own and add interest with texture – or maybe you want to make a poster look more like a painting. This is how you do it!

3. Is it a glue, sealer, and finish too? Yes – however, I highly recommend using Classic Mod Podge to decoupage your paper or fabric down given that this formula has texture. It does everything that other Mod Podges do, but with the texture, I only apply it on top.

4. Does it come in more than one finish? Yes – Gloss (shiny) and Matte (not shiny). Select the finish that best matches your project.

5. What should I use to apply this formula? I find a regular flat brush or foam brush work fine. It’s easy to get the brushstrokes no matter the brush, in my opinion.

6. How hard is it to make this formula show texture? Not hard at all! I don’t overly brush it. It’s *supposed* to glob on a little bit. Just swipe back and forth and let the brushstrokes fly.

7. I’m scared. This Mod Podge went on milky! Yes but it’s going to dry clear, like all Mod Podge. Do not worry! Just be patient.
