The best way EVER to mow your lawn – and win $100 to Home Depot!

IMG_3972 I’m going to be honest – I’ve never mowed a yard before in my life. I have four younger brothers . . . that’s a lot of manual labor for yard work! So lawn mowers have never really been on my radar, until my boyfriend had to get a new one. He’s has a gas powered lawn mower for YEARS that he has pieced together several times, and it finally gave up the ghost, so we were in the market for a new one. We had the opportunity to review the EGO PowerPlus 20 in. 56-Volt Lithium-ion 3-in-1 Cordless Lawn Mower from The Home Depot, and of course my boyfriend jumped at the chance. A new TOY!

But I have to be honest . . . we were a little apprehensive. An electric mower? So many questions ran through our heads. Will it be powerful enough? How will it cut? And keep it mind, you have two types of lawn mower users here: one that has never used a mower before and then a seasoned vet. And we were excited to try something that was gas free and environmentally friendly.

Having said that, I’ll let you know up front that we honestly, truly, LOVE this lawnmower. It’s seriously amazing, and impressed both of us. I want to walk you through it though, and talk about the different features, so you know what you expect if you are also in the market for a new lawnmower.

EGO Power Plus Cordless Mower Assembly.jpgThe first part to tackle with the EGO PowerPlus was assembly. It was truly a simple process, which was pretty awesome. We literally took the mower out of the of the box, charged the battery and put it in, hooked up the bag, and unfolded the handle. Click the key in and you are ready to go (but you know, put the right shoes on first).

IMG_3980Mowing was SOOOO easy. One of the concerns we had read online was the lack of being “self-propelled” (which I didn’t even know what that meant, since I’ve never mowed). Let me tell you: it’s not a concern. I could push that mower around, even with the bag full, and even up hills. Steve could push it with his pinky finger. It was no sweat. At all.

Starting was another thing that terrified me. Don’t mowers have pull cords? Or was that back in 1970? Anyway, this had a green key you can see above. Push in and pull up on the thin black handle. You are on and running, and it’s not that loud!

IMG_3979Look at my mowing job. It really WORKED!!

IMG_3981My boyfriend was telling me everything he loved about the mower as we were using it. His four favorite things:

  1. the 20″ cutting width – his current (that is now dead) mower was 16″, so this gets the job done faster.
  2. the ability to raise and lower the cutting height with ONE handle on the side – his mower required adjusting the height on all four wheels.
  3. There’s a mulching attachment, so you don’t have to use the bag.
  4. NO GAS!!!

My favorite things as a rookie mower:

  1. Easy to start.
  2. No GAS (I can’t stand the smell of it).
  3. Easy to push.

IMG_3988I have a video to share with you to show the EGO PowerPlus in action, but I want to let you know a little bit about the battery first, because this was one of the best parts. Our EGO Power Plus came with a 56-Volt lithium-ion battery (and this battery comes with all EGO products. Here are some details about it:

  • 40% more power than the leading 40-Volt battery
  • Industry’s fastest charge time of zero to full charge in just 30 minutes
  • Zero to full charge in just 40 minutes
  • On average, is 50% lighter and lasts four times longer
  • Three-year warranty

What is awesome about the battery is that it works with ALL of the EGO products. . . so you can get a string trimmer, blower, or hedge trimmer for $99 each . . . and use the same battery. We are buying all three!

Okay, so I said I wanted to share a fun video we recorded of the process of moving. You can get started and be up and running in just a few seconds. Take a peek:

We moved an entire lawn in 40 minutes, and the battery seemed like it still had a ton more juice. DO not worry about the battery dying on you mid-mow if you have a medium sized lawn. If you have a huge lawn – I do recommend purchasing an additional battery (at least I would): though the recharge time is only 30 minutes, so if you want to have one battery and just recharge, you can grab an iced tea before heading back out.

Here are all of the benefits of the EGO PowerPlus Cordless mower in one place:

  • The most powerful rechargeable mower on the market
  • Quiet and lightweight
  • 30-Minute Charger: Industry’s fastest charger
  • Up To A 45-Minute Cut Time: Battery run time meets or exceeds charge time
  • Fold Flat In Seconds: Convenient storing and cleaning
  • 20” Cut Capacity: Reduces the number of passes required to cut your lawn
  • True 3-In-1 Function: Superior mulching, rear bagging and side discharge performance
  • LED Headlights: Allow for mowing anytime
  • 600W, High-Torque, Magnetic Motor: Designed for high power output at 3300RPM’s
  • Convenient Push-Button Start: No more pull cord, easily starts at the press of a button
  • Five-year warranty

IMG_3987So as I said, you have two people who reviewed this mower: a newbie and a guy with a degree in Mow-ology. We both loved it. We have NO complaints. The worst part of the whole thing is that now Steve knows I love to mow, and that I can do it, so looks like I’ll be yard helper. What what??

If you are in the market for a new mower, I’d love for you to check out the EGO PowerPlus, as well as the other EGO products available. In fact, EGO and The Home Depot are providing one of my readers with a $100 HD gift card! Just enter to win below!

  1. Christine Beall says

May have to take a trip to Home Depot and check this out. I like that it doesn’t use gas and it is light. Love mowing lawn. I am assuming that the battery is also within the 5 year warranty?

    • says

Hi Christine! That I’m not sure of – the battery purchased separately has a 3 year warranty. If you go to Home Depot, please ask them!

  2. Jeannie Garcia-Buechele says

I love the fact that it is electric and not gas powered and that it is quiet so when I mow at 6am in the morning it won’t wake up the neighborhood :)

  3. Ashley W. says

I love the lack of an extension cord! We used an electric mower growing up and I always hated having to make sure I didn’t mow over the cord. We have gas now, but my parents recently bought a battery powered and love it. That’s probably what we’ll get when ours dies.

  4. Karyn says

I love that it doesn’t use gas so you don’t have to run to the gas station when you run out…just plug it in for a quick charge and go!

  5. Tina R. says

Easy to start and push, no gas and love that it folds up for easy storage! And just about everything else about it!

  6. Chris Wooten says

This is awesome. Thanks would love to win this. I am raising my granddaughter so money is tight but I could so use that cash. I would buy shelves for granddaughters closet. She loves to craft and I told her we will take off closet doors to make her a craft space of her own.

Thanks for sharing your info on the lawn mower. This sounds great. Wish I could afford one

I bet your boyfriend was happy with a new toy.

I entered all the ones I could.

  7. Angela says

The best part would not having to use gas, and I’m with you I can’t stand the smell!

  8. Shai Williams says

The fact that it is lightweight. I have fibro so a heavy lawnmower is impossible for me to use.

  9. Veronica S. says

Not having to put in gas sounds aaaaaaaamazing! I currently walk 2 blocks to my parent’s house to borrow their mower…I feel a bit silly walking down the sidewalk with a mower. Keeping my fingers crossed on this giveaway!!!!!!

  10. Rene Craig says

I wish I would have learned about this mower before we bought our new one this spring! :( Sounds awesome

  11. Christina Foley says

No gas – how many times do we go to mow the lawn to realize we are out of gas… ugh! And easy to start – I love mowing the lawn, but I usually have an awful time getting the stupid mower started. I also love that it has a mulching attachment, our mower we have now has one and I love it.

  12. Jennifer Wheeling says

I love that it doesn’t need gas. I am in the process of buying a house and looking to buy a mower…I will be checking this out.

  14. Lora W. says

So many things are great about this mower- including, not having to buy gas and not having to pull the cord to start.

  15. cath t says

I like the idea of no gasoline–lawn mower exhaust is a major source of pollution. And it smells. Would love a quieter mower, too. The whole design looks well thought out.

  16. Leigh Anne Borders says

Sounds like a really neat mower! I believe I could go for an electric mower. No stops at the gas station to fill up a tank and have the sent overpower my car sounds good to me!

  17. Brenda says

The push button start button would be my favorite part! I live with chronic pain and arthritis and it’s touch pulling that darn cord.

  18. Ricki Duke says

Seems like it is really easy to use. No gas! No cords to run over! Love to win it.

  19. says

I have a large yard and A LOT of grass to mow every week. I’m using an old hand me down that sounds like an exact replica of your boyfriend’s old mower. I love everything about this new one!

  20. Kristen Arland says

The no gas is what is most appealing to me. It looks like my 12 year old would be able to use it!

  21. says

I love everything about this mower. I had no idea they even had these available. I have an older mower (about 8 years old) and it is so darn heavy and hard to push and pull. I also love that the battery can be used in the other items…I could use a new string trimmer. I think I need to visit Home Depot soon. :)

  22. says

I love the Eco Friendly idea behind this lawn mower! the fact that it has the larger cutting dimensions is awesome too! Great post Amy!

  32. Megan Bell says
