Home Made Simple TV – new season!

I recently posted this picture of my kitchen/studio area on Instagram with the words “UGH.” The reason for the post was because I’m moving and this is the area I have to tackle and re-set up in my new studio. It seems overwhelming! I need some help, and right away.

It turns out there is a show called Home Made Simple on the OWN network that addresses organizational “issues” just like mine . . . and they have all new episodes!

The show is hosted by child star Soleil Moon Frye (remember Punky Brewster?!) and she’s really cute and energetic. I recently watched an episode called “Double Office Do Over” with work from home couple Chappale and Erica. He’s a motivational speaker and she helps women find jobs. They nominated each to get their respective offices revamped. Isn’t that sweet?

Chappale had a fascinating story – both of his parents were shot when he was 8, and this caused him to become a motivational speaker. He was so happy and positive throughout the whole episode. His office was stacked with books, and the goal was to turn his space into a sanctuary where he could meditate and also work.

But Erica . . . her office was just like mine (well, my apartment).

Her intentions are good, but her office had tons of stacks of paper. Star said “Erica is a piler.” The space wasn’t being used to its fullest extent . . . that was for sure. The goal for her space was to organize her piles and also convert the office into a Caribbean theme (her favorite).

Ken Wingard and Star Hansen, professional designer and organizer, came in to revamp the spaces. Star first organized and gave Chappale a color coded library with a systemized desk. Erica’s closet had the doors removed and was turned into her work area – with tons of useful storage. They both had to reduce their paperwork, piles, and any excess crap! Ken tied both rooms together with awesome DIY projects like this:

This was the highlight of the episode for me. Ken showed Erica how to make a DIY chalkboard calendar for Chappale’s space. And it was awesome – large and ombre. I love it and am going to make one for my studio! You can get the instructions here.

The rest of the episode revealed perfect office spaces that made me want to get organized ASAP (Chappale and Erica loved their new offices, by the way). I was really inspired by this Home Made Simple episode, and can’t wait to watch more. You’re going to love it!

Home Made Simple is my new Saturday morning routine and design destination! Be sure to tune in on Saturday mornings at 9am/8c, only on OWN.
