Mustache crafts: glitter gift tags

Mustache crafts - easy wood glitter gift tagsI just can’t get over the mustache trend – I kind of refuse to. I recently did a glitter mustache canvas on DIY Candy and it was so fun! Then there was the time I did the mustache stool. So when I saw these little mustache wood accents at Michaels the other day, I knew I had to use them . . . and figured they would work perfectly with my new Mod Podge Rocks stencils. These wood tags are perfect for gifts, ornaments, or you can adapt this idea to something completely different. Here’s how I made them.

Gather These Supplies

  • Wood tags
  • Wood mustache accents
  • Mod Podge Rocks Stencil – Chevron and Dots
  • Mod Podge Gloss
  • Mod Podge spouncers
  • Martha Stewart Acrylic Paint – Vanilla Bean, Lake Frog, Deep Sea
  • Glitter in the color of your choice
  • Baker’s twine
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Paintbrush

IMG_3103I decided to make the gift tags with two separate patterns – chevron and dots – and then place painted ‘staches on top.

IMG_3104Paint each gift tag with Lake Fog. Paint one mustache with Vanilla Bean and the other with Deep Sea. Yes, one mustache is blue. I know, crazy.

IMG_3113Carefully peel the stencil from the backer and place down on the tag – smooth, smooth, smooth.

IMG_3114Use the spouncers to apply Mod Podge to the stencil. Work quickly so that the Mod Podge doesn’t dry. Be careful not to get the Mod Podge over the edge.

IMG_3115Remove the stencil and sprinkle glitter on top of the Mod Podge. Dump the glitter off onto a piece of paper or a glitter tray (pour the remaining glitter back into the jar). Do the same with the other gift tag.

You’ll have some excess glitter on each tag, but don’t brush it off yet. Wait until the Mod Podge is completely dry and then use a dry brush to remove the excess.

Note: Wash the stencils immediately and return them to the backers. You can use them multiple times!

IMG_3117Glue the mustaches to the tops of the tags and tie the baker’s twine through the holes.
