I've told you many times that I have a forestry degree – I love trees and I love nature. For that and many other reasons, I also love stuff that has a woodgrain pattern. I thought about wood carvings recently, and how I like the thought, but I just don't have it in my heart to take a knife to a tree. So I came up with a way to get the look without going a cuttin'. This is a gift that you could give your sweetheart for Valentine's Day, and put the date you met/anniversary date/any other significant event on it. Pick any colors you want to customize. Here's how I made my faux wood carved canvas.
Gather These Supplies
- 8” x 10” oval canvas
- Mod Podge Satin
- Martha Stewart Crafts paint – Porcelain Doll
- FolkArt Extreme Glitter – Hologram
- Scrapbook paper – woodgrain pattern
- Cardstock – coordinating colors; I used aqua and teal
- Die cutter or other tool for cutting the letters and numbers
- Ribbon – coordinating
- Hot glue gun
Decide which letters and date you are going to on the front of the canvas – you can use the date of your first date, your marriage date or any other special day. Cut letters out of the cardstock using stencils or a die cutter. If you don't have a die cutter like me, then just print letters off of the computer or use free clip art as templates.
