Valentine decor: DIY Ikat frame

Valentine decor - DIY Ikat frameMy friend gave me a sheet of beautiful Ikat themed paper and I knew I needed to use it. Have you ever come in contact with a craft supply like that? You know, that pretty thing you must have. A lot of times those supplies go into the stash, but not with this paper. It was too pretty! I actually loved the colors for Valentine’s Day and the interesting pattern, so I decided that my first project would be a frame (I got a huge sheet of the paper), and that is what you see above. It’s a little bit rock n’ roll, but I love it. If you like my valentine decor too, see how I made it below.

Gather These Supplies

IMG_6856I used one of those $1 frames from the craft store. Don’t you love those? Place your frame face down on the back of the paper and trace.

IMG_6858Carefully cut out the paper using the scissors and set aside.

IMG_6859Paint the edges and back of the frame with several coats of Habenero (paint the inside edges too). Let dry.

IMG_6860Paint the wood hearts with the remaining colors – you know, if you like wood hearts. Let dry.

IMG_6862Mod Podge the paper to the frame. Use a medium coat of Mod Podge and spread over the entire frame. Smooth the paper down and let dry for 15 – 20 minutes.

IMG_6863Add a coat of Mod Podge over the top and let dry. Add a second coat and let dry.

IMG_6864Glue the hearts to the frame as shown using craft glue. Let dry.

IMG_6865Add Dimensional Magic to the tops of the hearts and let dry overnight, keeping the frame flat.

Valentine decor - DIY Ikat frameI don’t know these lovely folks in the frame, but hey, it’s for photography purposes. I still need to pick a photo. But am I happy with the finished project? Yes! I love my new Ikat frame!
