My favorite holiday of the year is Halloween – and I don’t make any bones about it (heh heh). I get so excited that I countdown the days until the big day. I’ll tell you a secret about me though: I’m the worst at counting ever. Try working out with me and counting reps – I lose count after the first few. So to help me figure out how many days until Halloween this year, I made a Halloween countdown calendar with a new product from Duck Brand® called Deco Laminate.
Duck Brand® Deco Laminate is an awesome craft supply. It an adhesive material that comes in rolls, and you can use it for decorating and embellishing frames, bookshelves, collages, jars, tables and more. There are several patterns, but I really loved the chalkboard and dry erase options. Yep – you can just roll either of these out on your surface and create a black chalkboard or a white dry erase surface. Amazing, isn’t it? And that is what I used to make my countdown craft. Here’s how I did it.
Gather These Supplies
- Wood plaque - 12 x 12″
- Scrapbook paper in a Halloween theme
- Duck Brand® Deco Laminate (chalkboard)
- Mod Podge Matte
- Clip art to fit your plaque
- Washi tape in a Halloween theme
- Acrylic paint – coordinating
- Glitter spiders
- Felt cobwebs
- Stencil tap or painter’s tape
- Craft knife and mat
- Craft glue
Add a medium layer of Mod Podge to the wood plaque – make sure to cover thoroughly and work quickly, because Mod Podge dries quickly. Put your paper down and smooth thoroughly. Let dry for 15 - 20 minutes.
Use your Halloween washi tape to edge your plaque as I did in the photo. You can see that the washi tape stuck down – if it doesn’t stick that well, you can Mod Podge over the top of it to hold it down. Trim the edges.
The Duck Brand® Deco Laminate was so easy to use. It cut like “buttah” and was so simple to put on the surface. It also is compatible with a Cricut machine if you have one of those . . . isn’t that cool?
