I have mentioned before that I live in a loft apartment. While I love my loft with its concrete floors and very tall ceilings, there is one thing that stinks . . . I have zero storage. I also have the smallest laundry room known to man. You might *think* that you have the smallest laundry room ever, but I swear it’s me. The problem with having such a small laundry room is that it is one of only two closets, aka, places to keep all of my things. I also want it to be a more pleasant and efficient place to do laundry. And because of that, it is need of a huge overhaul.
Did you know that the average family does around 400 loads of laundry each year? That is a whole lot of time spent in the laundry room! I don’t do that many loads per year, but I’m sure I do a lot. And it always ends up last on the task list, because doing laundry isn’t always the most fun thing in the world. BUT, help is on the way!
Tide and Maytag have partnered with Home Depot to bring you brilliant ideas for redesigning your laundry room – and these come straight from Jenny Komeda the decorator and blogger behind Little Green Notebook. Check out a few of her tips:
Dealing with a dark, cave-like laundry room is a chore in and of itself! By taking off the doors on a few of your upper cabinets, you’ll open up the space and create a place to store baskets. In this laundry room, we assigned baskets for every member of the house, which makes sorting a breeze!
Why not decoupage or paint insides of cabinets for a fun pop of color? It’s a guaranteed smile each and every time you reach for your detergent.
I’m liking Tip #2 . . . what do you think? Haha! There are more tips, so get the rest here.
Now back to my laundry room. I’ve started cleaning it up and wanted to share. I purchased my supplies from the Home Depot. The Home Depot is your one-stop shop for finding everything you need for your laundry room, including great cleaning products, appliances, organizing, storage and decorating items. So I bought this shelf and some storage bins and have started putting everything together behind the door inside my laundry room. Do you know how much more SPACE it’s given me? Completely awesome!
I still have to organize the shelves and try to brighten up the laundry room using some of the tips – and that is my next step. Now that I’ve started I can wait to keep going!
Before I go, I wanted to share the Brilliant Clean contest run by Tide, Maytag and The Home Depot – you can win a $5,000+ laundry room re-design, a Maytag PowerWash® washing machine and coordinating dryer, One year’s supply of Tide HE laundry detergent and an E-design laundry room consultation by Jenny Komenda. Go here to enter by August 19th!
And guess what – I’m also doing a giveaway! This is pretty exciting. I’m giving a $500 Home Depot gift card and a Tide sample away to a reader, so that you can get going on making your laundry room awesome-r (is that a word?). Enter below!
