Vacation: the best thing in the world.

This post brought to you by VISIT FLORIDA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Everyone thinks that working for yourself is the most awesome thing in the world. And it is, but there is one thing that you skimp on when you work for yourself – vacations. I don’t know if it’s just me, but being my own CEO, HR, janitor and everything in between keeps me pretty busy. There is ALWAYS something to do.

Luckily I live in Atlanta,Georgia, and there are tons of great vacation destinations within driving distance. Sometimes there are so many options that it’s hard to decide where to go. My man friend and I are trying to figure out a vacation this year, and we decided to VISIT FLORIDA – you know, just like the commercials! Have you seen them? People doing yoga in the middle of the water on paddleboards and things like that. It’s amazing.

There are so many reasons we are heading south for vacation this year. We had a great vacation last year to Florida. Last May we went to a wedding for several days in Long Boat Key. I had no idea how NICE it was going to be. I wasn’t sure what to expect and I thought the beaches might be really overpopulated or too sweaty, but I was pleasantly surprised. The sand and water were beautiful and the sky was clear. I even got in the ocean (a big deal for me!). But my favorite part . . . my absolute favorite part . . . was riding bikes into town. You could rent cruiser bikes on the beach and take them all over the key. I felt free. And that is how vacation is supposed to make you feel.

This year we haven’t decided where to go yet, but I’m loving kayaking lately. Did you know that Florida has 11,000 miles of rivers? We are thinking of heading south to do a trip and then hit the beach as well. I wouldn’t mind a stop at a spa, in addition to all of the other fun things we’re going to do. I’m burned out from working so hard – I need to refresh! The great thing about Florida is that anything you can think of can pretty much be found somewhere in the state.

This year Florida is celebrating 500 years since Ponce de Leon discovered the area. On January 14th, they launched Florida’s 500 Years of Adventure Sweepstakes that runs throughout the year. VISIT FLORIDA is showcasing why Florida has been the world’s destination of choice for 500 years . . . and each week you’ll have a chance to win a new Florida adventure. These packages include rental car, hotel accommodations, and other exciting “what to do about town” activities!

I’m not sure of Florida. It seems flat hot, humid and buggy. Well, that’s what I remember from 2 vacations my family took there. But I’ve only heard good things about Key West. And I’m with you on the bikes. Such a nice relaxing way to travel! I’m wishing you luck on winning the Key West Escape package. We’ll most likely head up to the Adirondacks and camp. Maybe I can rent a bike up there?
    warm wishes,

Hi Laurie! I live in Atlanta so an escape to the beaches of Florida is refreshing compared to the humidity and bugs here! LOL!
