Did you realize that this week is Random Acts of Kindness Week? It’s a good reminder to me to do nice things for other people besides myself. I particularly love doing a “craft it forward” project for a friend. I have several friends who are going through tough times right now – this includes job loss, illness and divorce. I decided to make them some gifts to brighten their spirits with the help of Michaels!

So I wanted to share my projects with you. I made several friends personalized DIY gift boxes with candy, and I included a Michaels gift card in each box:
Here’s how you can make a DIY gift box! They were so easy.
Gather These Supplies
- Mod Podge Dimensional Magic
- Sizzix Big Shot
- Lifestyle Crafts hamburger box die
- Scrapbook paper – you’ll want one stiffer piece for the box form and then some scraps to cut the embellishments
- American Crafts DIY thickers – customizable foam letter stickers
- Martha Stewart glitter - fluorescent gray
- Double stick tape
- Box filler – Hershey’s kisses, Michaels gift card, etc.
I chose a stiffer paper for the gift box. It had a doily printed on the opposite side of the paper that I wanted to use, but I figured it would make it more fun! I rolled the die and paper through my Big Shot.
Then I did the same with my box embellishments – and got to use paper scraps to do it! It’s always a bonus when I can use paper scraps.
I added glitter to my letter – which was adhesive on the front and back. Have you ever heard of fluorescent gray glitter? Me neither, but I like it.
Of course I had to add Dimensional Magic to my letter to make it pop. Do you see that bubble? You can remove with a pin or I usually remove with a finger (I’m a messy crafter).
Assemble your box with double stick tape – you can use glue as well.
Fill your box with goodies. Then make several so that you can craft it forward!
Michaels is participating in Random Acts of Kindness Week, Feb. 11-17, by asking customers to share their own random acts of kindness on the Michaels Facebook page and to use the hashtag #RAOKDIY when sharing on Twitter and Instagram.
In celebration of the holiday on Sunday, Feb. 17, Michaels hopes to inspire customers to participate by giving away more than $100,000 in gift cards at its nearly 1,100 U.S. and Canada stores. Gift card recipients will be encouraged to “craft it forward” and exhibit their own random act of kindness towards another person. Customers who want to “craft it forward” can find inspiration for Random Acts of Kindness projects to give to others on the Michaels Random Acts of Crafting Pinterest board!
