Creating my dream tree challenge.

I want you to meet my Christmas pièce de résistance. No, it’s not Roxie . . . it’s that amazing tree skirt you see before you. I bought it a long time ago on clearance (I couldn’t believe it!). Some would say “of course it was on clearance – it’s heinous.” But I love my 70s tree skirt. I love the colors and the modern pattern, I. love. it. And guess what? I’ve never, ever used my favorite tree skirt ever. Since I bought it, I’ve either traveled for Christmas (so why put up a tree when I won’t be here?) or had a smaller tree because I didn’t have any room.

But now I have a bigger space. And now I’m not traveling for Christmas. And now I finally get to use my ugly tree skirt. Yay!

Michaels sent me a 6-foot pre-lit tree to participate in their Dream Tree Challenge. This is the opportunity for me to decorate my tree  the way I like, with fun ornaments in the color palette that matches my tree skirt. The Partridge Family’s got nothing on my Christmas!

I headed to my local Michaels to pick up all the supplies I needed to decorate the best tree ever. With the best tree skirt EVER.

Right when I walked in the door I saw the Hello Kitty display and completely forgot about Christmas for a second. I may or may not have thrown a few items into my cart. Task at hand . . .

Second stop was the ornament section – I got several packs of the glass ornaments, adhesive stencils and FolkArt paint so that I can make glass ornaments in my color palette just like these.

Then I saw the kids’ Christmas foam section, and because it was all so cute I thought for a second that I might theme my tree as a kids’ foam tree. Then I realized that it wouldn’t match my tree skirt. But the kids’ foam is so cute! I want a second foam tree.

In addition to getting some goodies to go handmade, I also bought some pre-made ornaments. I may look like a crafty superhero, but I’m not. I wanted a combination of ornaments I make and pre-mades – and Michaels had a lovely selection.

Look at this big sparkly bows! I should wear one. I’m not sure where.

This is my cart before checking out. Notice the paper mache stars that I can’t wait to paint. This tree is going to be so fun it will knock your socks off. I can’t wait to do the big reveal in the next week. Check back for my entry into the Dream Tree Challenge!

In the meantime, check out Michaels holiday look book online. They have a lot of great holiday project supplies and four unique decorating collections. You’ll love it.

Love that tree skirt and can totally relate to having purchased items for Christmas but never using it, since I usually travel out of the country for the Holidays!
Can’t wait to see what you come up with… Super FUN!
    Love, Michaels!!!

I have that same tree-skirt! Got it on clearance too! It’s the cutest thing ever! We don’t have a themed tree just smorgasbord of ornaments we’ve received every year from our parents.

I am so jealous! I would love to decorate a tree with all the things I like and want. I even like the 70′s tree
Can’t wait to see the tree all done.
