Mod Podge DIY cookbook revamp – with fabric.

Introducing Amber from Crazy Little Projects and her DIY cookbook revamp! Amber is a talented all-around crafter and I really love her projects, especially her recipes. It’s very appropriate that Amber’s project today is Mod Podging her beat up cookbook. I’ll let her show you how it was done.

I have a serious thing for fabric. I just love it. When I recently found out that there is something called Fabric Mod Podge, I knew I wanted to try it. My cookbook is an old photo album binder that I just put 4 x 6 recipe cards in. It works great but was in serious need of a makeover because it was old and nasty. So I grabbed some cute fabric, a bottle of Fabric Mod Podge and a foam brush and in 20 minutes I had a brand new cookbook:

You can do this to any book.

Here’s the before:

Yuck! To do this project you need a piece of fabric that is several inches larger than the binder or notebook you want to cover and a bottle of Fabric Mod Podge.

I started off by cutting a piece of coordinating fabric to cover the inside covers. Spread a thin layer of the Mod Podge and press the fabric in place nice and smooth.

Now, lay your big piece of fabric under your binder and cut it so that it is a few inches wider than the binder on each side.

Now spread a thin layer of the Mod Podge on the front of the binder.

Firmly press your fabric in place on the front of the binder and smooth it out making sure to prevent any bubbles or wrinkles. Do this on both the front and the back, as well as the spine.

Now, beginning on one side of the binder, spread a thin layer of Mod Podge along the edge of the fabric and fold it under about 1 inch.

Do it again – spread Mod Podge on the part you just folded under and this time fold it over onto the binder and glue it in place.

Do this on the top and on the bottom of the binder.

Now do it on the side of the binder. The exact same thing.

It should like this when you are done. Do this on the front and the back and you have a beautiful new fabric covered recipe binder.
