Recently I got to try a new product line and have a little fun – and of course, combine it with Mod Podge! You’ll see the result above, which is a little sign that I keep on my beside table and is the first thing I look at when I wake up. It’s colorful and happy, and reminds me to have a “good day” every day. Sometimes it’s easier said that done, but hey, why not try, right?
So what did I use to create my mini rainbow masterpiece?
A new line of product from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft called Mix and Match. You can easily design with color – you just choose a set, a medium, and then pull it all together. All of the products work together. On this project I used the Gelatos™ Colors, which are creamy, colorful sticks. They slide easily onto paper and can be dissolved with water (to create watercolor effects) or left to dry for vibrant color. They are acid-free and odorless. And I love them! They applied so easily. Here’s how I made my block.
Gather These Supplies
Wood block – any scrap will do
Mod Podge Dimensional Magic
Gelatos™ Colors - I used the Red, Yellow, Green and Blue packs White adhesive letters
You aren’t going to believe how easy this is. My letters were on a sheet, so I started using the Gelatos and coloring on the diagonal. I started with the pinks/reds on the first “G,” then I kept adding colors further down the rainbow.
These were so easy to blend. If I didn’t like the look, I just picked another color and went over what I had just done.
Choose your placement on the block with the first letter. This was way too high.
Get all of the letters onto the block and smoothed out. Be careful not to dig your fingernails in; you don’t want to ruin your work (it takes awhile for these to dry)
Add Dimensional Magic on top of the letters, making sure not to drag the tip into the Gelato colors.
Let dry and you’ve have a nice, glossy finish on the letters.
Place next to your bed as a reminder to have a good (if not great!) day. This sign makes me happy every time I look at it. Would be fun on canvas as well!
