I’m not always the, um . . . picture of health. Working full-time and running this blog as well as living my life means that sometimes I get lazy and eat croutons for dinner. Okay, not croutons – but close. Anyhoo, it’s a new year (yay!) and it’s time to get real with myself. I have one big resolution.
Eat more fruit as a substitute for processed sugar.
It’s pretty specific, and I need to follow through because I can be a sugar junkie. One way that I intend to eat my fruit is through smoothies. I LOVE smoothies. You can see my magic smoothie above. I’ve often thought that if I could go to a totally liquid diet, then I would. I will share my magic smoothie recipe with you in a moment, but first: I’m working with Tropicana® Trop50® to spread the word about their new year’s resolution contest. They are giving away four $1,000 gift cards for sharing your resolution. Their Trop50 is a new ingredient in my magic smoothie recipe!
My magic smoothie requires some amount of added sweetness. My recipe used juice (which is really sugary), so when I heard that Tropicana had new Trop50 juice beverage with 50% less sugar, I agreed to give it a go. I went the no pulp route (pulp icks me out).
Amy’s Magic Smoothie
(which makes about 12 oz. I think)
1 cup blueberries
1 cup strawberries
3/4 fat free milk
1/2 cup Trop50 Orange
2/3 Tbl vanilla yogurt (low sugar)
Blend it all up on whatever setting works for you. Done and not too sugary. It’s really delicious, and the Trop50 adds the right level of sweetness so that it’s not a bland fruit blob in a cup.
Enter, magic smoothie face. Ha! I like my smoothie for breakfast, but also for lunch if I’m not that hungry. You can make your own magic smoothie, honestly. It’s not really that magic (shhh). Just substitute other fruits. You can also change the Trop50 to a different flavor. I tried the Raspberry Lemonade 50% less sugar as well, and that one was just as delicious.
Now it’s time for you to contribute. Read below and submit your resolution to win!

Oh we are BIG TIME smoothie makers… Okay my children are…
They are constantly coming up with new recipes… They love using Coconut Milk..
Love your Smoothie Picture..so very CUTE!!!!
You might try adding honey as a sweetener to your smoothies. When I want some extra sweetness in my smoothies, that’s what I use. (I don’t usually even use juice in my smoothies… just yogurt, fruit, and either water or milk). Also, if you want to be super healthy, you can add quite a bit of spinach into a blender full of smoothie without it tasting any different.
Yep, ditto what Allison said about adding spinach (about a cup). Great nutrition boost and I promise you won’t even taste it. Carrots add an interesting sweetness too. Oh, and for additional antioxidants, you can sub green tea for water. Yay for smoothies!
