New Year’s party hats and cake banner with Lifestyle Crafts.

I know it’s not even Christmas yet, but there isn’t much time between Christmas and New Year’s for crafting – so I had to share a New Year’s project with you now. I’m a huge fan of Lifestyle Crafts products and cutting dies. I did a review of their L Letterpress kit on Craft Critique in April, and I’ve been hooked on their goodies ever since. So what did I create? I used their new Countdown products to make a New Year’s cake banner and little party hat votive toppers.

My banner ended up being kinda large – but it would be the perfect size for a larger cake, and I like it big. Who doesn’t, right?

The little party hat votive toppers make perfect party table decor (those are battery tealights). I’m excited to share how I made this with you, and also tell you about contests that Lifestyle Crafts is having from now until the end of January. Yay!

Gather These Supplies

Lifestyle Crafts Countdown dies – party hat and celebrate letters
Lifestyle Epic die cutter
Mod Podge Satin
Sassafras paper – Nerdy Bird collection
Turquoise cardstock
Gold glitter
Turquoise adhesive rhinestones
Paintbrush
Craft glue
Scissors
BBQ skewers (or other wood sticks)
Battery tealights

These party goodies are very easy to make. Here are my supplies – everything I used was on hand.

Cut your paper to fit the die.

Run it through the Epie. I’m using clear plates to show you how you do it.

Fold the paper into the party hat shape and let your pugs sniff it and check it out (optional).

I ran the rest of the shapes, including the letters through the Epic as well. The dies cut like “buttah.”

I cut a piece of paper big enough to hold the letters for my banner, and then rounded the corners.

I Mod Podged the letters to the banner.

I used craft glue to attach the BBQ skewers to the back of my banner. You will not believe how often I use these skewers, for a variety of purposes. Weird, huh? Let the skewers dry and move back to the hats.

I didn’t have Mod Podge Sparkle on hand, so I mixed some gold glitter into my Satin formula. Works just fine!

Adhere the stars to the hat using Mod Podge, and paint a coat all over the hat to glitter it up. Repeat with the second hat.

One of the dies in the kit cuts this little hat topper. You just roll it up and stick it in, and it stays pretty well. Let everything dry and you’re done.

PS – I didn’t add the bottom accents to the hats on purpose.

I stuck the little hats on battery powered tealights. They look SO cute and I would love to have these as party table decor!

Here’s my sign close up. It’s colorful, but you know that’s how I roll.

Here’s my sweet setup. I love my New Year’s party decor! Now I just need to plan some sort of a party . . .

One more thing for you and then I’ll let you go. Lifestyle Crafts is offering a 20% discount to Mod Podge Rocks readers if you enter “ModPodge” at checkout. Have fun crafting!
