The Cutest Half Eaten Gingerbread Ornaments

These Christmas gingerbread ornaments make me squeal every time I see them! So cute and made of felt with basic supplies – easy for kids.

A few weeks ago, the fabulous people at Martha Stewart Living held an event at Pins and Needles in NYC and made some fun gingerbread Christmas ornaments. I wasn’t able to be there in person, but I was able to Skype in – sometimes technology really comes in handy.

The event was for children and their parents, and featured five crafts including a few from the new Handmade Holiday Crafts book – the book I’ve been crafting along with at The New Home Ec.

Skyping in was fun, and I really wished I could have been there. Everyone was having such a great time!

Here’s one of the projects that was done at the crafting event: half eaten gingerbread ornaments made with felt and other craft supplies – aren’t they cute?

I love gingerbread men (my favorite symbol of the holiday), so this was definitely a favorite. Since the folks at MS are so nice, they are letting me share the instructions with you, as well as a few other projects (with instructions) from the event. Read on!

Gingerbread Christmas Ornaments

Tools and Materials

• Brown felt plus assorted colors for decorating the gingerbread
• Rick rack in assorted colors
• Needle and thread – optional if you want to sew any details onto the ornament
• Fabric glue
• Googly eyes

1. Start by cutting out the gingerbread shapes. We made our so they looked like they had small bites in them. You will need two pieces for the body. We also used white felt to make the eyes, but you could also use googly eyes.
2. Start decorating! Cut out felt pieces, use rick rack or other trim to decorate your gingerbread man or woman. Glue these pieces on to the brown felt pieces.
3. Cut a small piece of rick rack for the loop it will hang from. Place this at the top and glue or stitch to adhere to the inside of the brown felt pieces.
   Finally glue the two brown pieces together so they act as a sandwich to the rick rack loop.

I’m hoping I get to go to the next Martha event in person, because everyone had a blast making ornaments, and I want to be there! And next time I’m in NYC, I’m going to head to Pins and Needles because the shop looks beautiful (and I love to hoard pretty fabric).
