I am lucky enough to live in the same state (Georgia) as Brenda Pinnick – the designer who created this week’s die for the Sizzix Blog Hop. I even got to visit her once and work in her studio (see that post here). It was a pleasure to use her beauty bloom flower die this week - I like it because of the versatility; her shapes work with anything. I combined her flower designs with some fun papers and a few other Sizzix dies to decorate my box. t’s vibrant and flowery, so that means I’m pleased. Here’s how to make it yourself.
Gather These Supplies
Wood box with lid
Sizzix Originals Dies – Flower, Beauty Bloom by Brenda Pinnick, Flowers, 3-D and Flower Layers #3
Brenda Pinnick Couleur Vie fabric
Mod Podge Gloss
FolkArt Acrylic Paint – Glazed Carrots, Hot Pink, Sky Blue
K & Company scrapbook paper – Greenhouse collection by Carolyn Gavin
Felt in coordinating colors – some was from a local craft store and some from National Nonwovens
Wood ball – 2″
Buttons – coordinating, I used Blumenthal Lansing
Craft glue
Craft knife and mat
Paintbrush
Basecoat your box with Sky Blue. Give several coats and allow to dry.
While your box is drying, cut your scrapbook paper to fit the sides. I cut the paper down about 1/2″ shorter than the sides of the box so that the pieces wouldn’t cover all of the paint on the edges. Set the paper aside for a moment.
Paint your wood ball. I recommend a small dowel rod to hold it while you paint. If you’ve never tried this technique, then you’ve never really lived. Set the ball aside to dry, and once it’s dry, Mod Podge it to seal.
Next step is paper application. Apply a medium layer of Mod Podge to the box. Work one side at a time.
Lay the paper down and smooth it out thoroughly with your fingers (or a brayer, which I love). Wipe away any Mod Podge that comes out the sides of the paper with a brush. Allow to dry for 15 – 20 minutes. Repeat with the other three sides.
Apply a top coat over the entire box, including the lid. Set aside to dry.
I received so many floral cutouts – yay! I painted some of them with FolkArt and let them dry. I also received some precut felt, fabric and patterned pieces. The goal was to use them all together. In one big (pretty) flowery lump.
I cut out some additional felt pieces too. I had a lot of flowers. I may have gone to far.
Mod Podge your flat paper and fabric pieces down to the box. I did it on the lid as well. DO NOT Mod Podge any of the felt – it gets a really weird consistency that is kind of disturbing. For the felt, you’ll want to just glue it down with craft glue.
Here’s the finished project with a closeup of the top. As you can see, I glued everything down (that I could get my hands on) with craft glue. I added buttons to the centers of several flowers. I also added some felt to the top and glued the wood ball on. My project is complete.
See you next Thursday with a fun frame from Eileen Hull. There might be some Dimensional Magic if you’re lucky.

Blogger who loves the color blue and sock monkeys. You can find me in public easily— I'm wearing glasses and lots of stripes.

Cool giveaway! I’m dying to get my hands on one of those starter kits. Ever since you mentioned fabric modge podge way back when I’ve been on the lookout, the state of Kansas must be behind in times, b/c I can’t find it anywhere.
