Cake Pops by Bakerella book review and giveaway.

You probably won’t be surprised to know that I’m not much of a cook or a baker. If Mod Podge were an ingredient then it might be different, but then again, everything would stick to your colon. And that wouldn’t be pretty. Heh heh. You should know that even as a non-cook and non-baker, I LOVE Bakerella. Who hasn’t been to her blog? It’s beautiful. Her baked goods are beautiful.  So when I had the opportunity to review Cake Pops by Angie Dudley (Bakerella herself!), I jumped. I think the best thing about Bakerella is that she has no formal training – she decided she loved something and dove in.  Her story is so inspiring, and it comes out in her book.  I’m impressed at her accomplishments.

What are cake pops?  Well, they are the baked goodies that Bakerella is well known for.  Cake pops are decorated balls of tasty wonder on a stick.  She made them internationally popular, and even Martha Stewart recognized their appeal and had her on “the show” in 2008.  It’s funny that I never knew the cake pops had both cake mix and frosting in them until I read this book.  I definitely had no idea how to make them, and now I do.  If you have ever wanted to be a hit at a party and impress your friends, you need Cake Pops.  Here are my five favorite things.

1.  The basics section at the beginning of the book.  “Dear Bakerella: Thank you for understanding that some of us are not bakers and making it very easy to learn with detailed instructions and clear photos.  I feel I can now make a cake pop without a degree in flour and sugar.  Sincerely, Amy”

2.  The amount of different cake pop recipes and decor ideas.  If you are looking for a wide variety of cake pops, then you’ve come to the right place.  It’s not just a few cake pops with a recipe, no, not even close.  There are over 40 cake pop designs and several recipes, so you are good for any occasion you can think of.  I promise.

3.  The incorporation of all different types of candy and decorative add-ons.  I never knew about edible-ink pens, and I would never have thought about cutting up a Twizzler or candy necklace to use as confectionery decor.  The way Bakerella uses these items with her cake pops is what makes them truly amazing.  It’s all of the little details, my friends, that makes these little balls of wonder on a stick true party stoppers.

4.  The Halloween and owl cake pops.  The woman knows how to celebrate my favorite holiday, and in style.  Check out the hats on these witches.  Could they be any cuter?

5.  Tips, troubleshooting and how-tos.  Wondering what to do if you have a cake pop debaucle?  You’re covered.  How do you carry these to a party?  Bakerella shows you.  Want to do something fancy with cookie cutters and various shapes?  It’s addressed.  I can’t think of anything that Bakerella didn’t cover.

I honestly believe that having this book in your collection will make a huge difference in your popularity at parties.  Plus I can’t even imagine how much children would love to have these at a birthday – they are truly the cutest baked goods I’ve ever seen in my life.  I knew about cake pops, but I definitely didn’t give them the credit they deserve until I read Cake Pops.

Guess what?  You can win Cake Pops in addition to a starter pack this week.  This book is so awesome that I’m thrilled to be giving it away.

  374. One Creative Queen says:

Oh! Oh! Ooohhh!! I’m wildly waving my hands – I don’t know which I need more – some Podge or this book. I’m like you – definitely not a “cooker” as my kids used to say when they were little. However, my middle son, from about 3 1/2 to 7, used to tell people his mom could “cook iced tea and cookies in a roll gooder than anybody else!” – and he meant it, too. Too bad he was talking about the cookies you buy in a log – and you just cut off a strip/scoop out a spoonful. Oh well…we can’t all be perfect at everything, right?

And I’ll take being adept with MP any day…think about it. You don’t even have to worry about expanding you thighs! xx

  375. Hi, I don’t know if your offer covers intl readers as well, but I still wanted to leave a comment. I love your blog; it’s really very helpful to see different projects you can do with mod podge. It was surprising for me to see info on bakerella and cake pops in your blog. I discovered cake pops a few weeks ago when I was trying to find Hello Kitty cookie/muffin ideas for my daughter’s birthday and I fell in love with the smart idea. To cut it short, a great gift combo:-)
